Swedish Platform for System Innovation Research in Interaction

Design and Policy in Practice (DoPP)
Overview

This project focuses on the transition toward a new Social Service Act, seen as a transformative innovation policy.
The specific research interest within DoPP lies in the intersection of systematic design practices and policy development. Guiding questions include:
-
How do design and policy development contribute to establishing a transformative innovation policy?
-
How are design practices shaped within the performative context of policy development?
-
How does the embodiment of a new Social Service Act influence design and policy practices?

Activities

The project is carried out as an interactive initiative, where knowledge development is done in practice and in research. The main activities center on the work of designers involved in the policy development process and on the organizations making design possible.

Stakeholder Involvement

The project is closely linked to the national development project TITI (Early Insights for Early Action), in collaboration with SALAR (SKR in Swedish) and 13 pilot municipalities. The research partners are Linköping university and Chalmers.

Expected outcomes

The expected outcomes relate to the connection between design and policy development, especially the pre-conditions and structures that support the use of design as a knowledge-intensive practice in transformative innovation policy. The project also aims to provide exemplars of how such design practices are formed.
